Scaffold is a group comprising three artists Shinod Akkaraparambil, Sujeeth Kumar Sree Kandan, and Vijay Pichumani. The collective conceptualized by artists is an attempt to discuss and debate art and ideas and to exhibit their work in a collaborative order. This is conceived as a shared space where artists can meet, interact and work together deliberately to bypass conventions. The present show interacts with the viewers about the ideology of the artists. The preview of Scaffold was at Lalit Kala Akademi from 24th November to 30th November. Shinod's work 'Point Blank-365' is watercolour on board( 7 inches by 7 inches) which has 365 works in number eventually depicting the 365 days of a year. The visual expression of his daily foreseeing into characters fills the space of thoughts into days. It involves one into the space the artist has traveled and seen in his daily life. The figurations with brown and black give the feel of mud which the artist purposely implicated into his work to acknowledge the idea of time and space. Sujeeth Kumar Sree Kandan's installation on wood insists on the conscious usage of natural resources. Simplified images of human reproduction and plant germination on the wooden logs substantiate his idea as well as the visual inspiration that he got from his native place. 'Changing seasons' is about climatic change and the moments it happens used the sea as the visual to say the idea of the moment. A 12X2 feet long panel traces the imprint left by the waves on the shore by using pigment on paper. This work prolongs to an overhead video projection on the sand. The video has many layers of videos recorded of waves hitting the shore and sliced to mean the fraction of moments. The contours and terrains in the sand piled up to give the impression of sea waves flowing over the mountains. The colors of the video are matched to mean the travel which he had in the Himalayas. Both his works question the possibilities of human thought being altered. Vijay Pichumani's 30X5 feet wide mountainscape is titled 'With wisdom, truly, even a mountain can become a stone. It is his real-life experience with the mountains, the flora and fauna of his native land in which he is living through. The work is destroying itself as if the beauty of the land perishing as ages pass by. The detailed photo color work etches out the beauty of the landscape itself and also specifies the birds and their relation to nature and its responding tendency towards the minute sounds existing in the flora and fauna. 'Reminiscence' is a copper and brass sculpture of a pineapple plant made to look alike a real plant. In this work, he talks about the nostalgia he had for his childhood. He explains how it was then, while pine apple gets ripe crows to come to eat them, it was scared off using mirrors reflected on the crows approaching the ripe fruit. He fondly sees it as a memory since it can not be witnessed anymore in his native. As a group, the show talks about the geographical, socio, and political co-existence of humans. The 'scaffold' really stands for the cause as the word literally means. The group believes in bringing art to all sections of people in society, so as part of the show school children and people from all walks of life(including slum dwellers) were invited. It was an attempt to create and educate people about art and its importance as a form of expression, the artist says. During the show, all days invited senior artists presented and interacted with their works to school children. The show is now moved to Dhakshina Chithra, Chennai., from December 3rd and it will be on view till December 30th. Sujeeth Kumar Sree Kandan.
